De Republiek was founded in 1987 in the “Staatsliedenbuurt” in Amsterdam. A well-known neighbourhood in Amsterdam: during the eighties it was the centre of squatters. A very multicultural district and also known for its sociability and therefore attractive to artists as well as young families. This results in a diversity amongst the Republlieks’ visitors.

De Republiek is a small and cozy coffeeshop with a big group of regulars. An open and warm atmosphere create the perfect spot to relax with a good up of coffee, something to smoke and always someone to talk to. Or, on the other hand, you might just want to grab a newspaper and enjoy your free moment in silence.
